Pricing, Return and Shipping Policy

Choosing the right ECC Subscription:

If you already know how much coffee you drink, order however much you need for a sufficient month’s supply. You can modify the quantities later and get exactly the right amounts. Alternatively, try our “Occasional Drinker” subscription and if you need more you always have the option to top up and rush the next shipment!


ECC delivers the most ethical prices possible. We operate to cover
costs, stay in business and achieve sustainable growth so you get great deals on top-quality coffee.

We set our prices according to our social purpose: providing affordable and ethically traded coffee to Canadians while improving the standard of life of the people producing it. Our prices are as low as possible given our social purpose, from the start. The price you pay for your coffee is a combination of:

-       The price of coffee paid to the Farmer for green beans. (the highest and most ethical in the industry)

-       The cost of roasting, grinding, bagging, importing and shipping your coffee.

-       The cost of running Ethical Coffee Chain and achieving small and sustainable growth.

We cannot offer big sales, but at the same time you will not see significant fluctuations in our price because we are committed to obtaining the lowest possible price for our consumers, while paying our farmers an ethical price. This ethical price is determined by what is required to sustain their farms and provide their workers a proper standard of life. The more our members buy, however, the more our operational costs will go down, and the more our coffee price may drop.


While quantities of our limited-edition(our very first!) medium-dark roast of Gus's Coffee lasts, your coffee subscription will ship immediately by Priority Post (1-2 day delivery guaranteed for most regions). We will set aside enough of this coffee for your subscription until the upcoming harvest. If you order after we run out of this first batch you'll be first in line for our next shipment scheduled to arrive in Canada in December of 2011. Once shipped, you’ll get one to five day delivery of your order depending on where in Canada you are ordering from. We will check in with you before we ship the next month’s supply of coffee in case you’d like to change the quantity or stop the order altogether.


When you submit an online purchase through our website, we collect your information securely, and process your first month's purchase. Each time you’re due for a shipment, we will process the corresponding payment. You pay only for what you get, when you get it.

Modifying an Order

You may modify an order as often as you like. Contact us to top up or change or your order.


You may return any bags of coffee that have never been opened, or expired, for a partial refund. ECC will retain a small administrative fee as well as the cost of shipping.

On any opened bags we have a 30-day money-back guarantee from day of delivery.

If you choose to cancel your subscription before the first month of coffee is delivered we will issue a refund, minus the expense of the shipping and cost of the complimentary sample we mailed to you when you bought a subscription.

We understand that it’s not nice to run out of your morning coffee, so if bags of coffee arrive opened or ripped to your house, we will rush-deliver replacement bags immediately.

Website Terms of Use

By accessing our website, you, the user, agree to the terms and conditions we set out here. These terms and conditions may change at our discretion any time, and without notice. All orders and purchases made through this site are also governed by these terms and conditions.

Use of and orders placed on this website are governed by the laws and the courts of the province of Ontario, and by the applicable laws of Canada. The user is also responsible for complying with these laws.

We may correct errors or inaccuracies and change or update information on this website at any time without notice, including prices and item availability. All weights quoted are approximate. All prices listed are in Canadian dollars and all charges will be processed in Canadian dollars. All prices listed on this site are subject to confirmation. You agree to pay all charges payable for your order. We reserve the right to limit the quantity of items that you may buy. We also reserve the right to cancel orders at our discretion.

We will use commercially reasonable efforts to deliver items as quickly as possible, and within any time indicated. However, we are not responsible for delivery delays beyond our control. We will endeavour to notify users if delivery is delayed. All items are delivered by a third party, and delivery is governed by their shipping contracts. We reserve the right not to ship to certain addresses.

All textual and graphic content on this site, its organization and presentation, and our organization and domain name are our property, and are therefore copyrighted by us unless otherwise noted. The materials on this site may be downloaded, displayed, reposted or printed by the user for non-commercial and lawful personal use only, with attribution given. This agreement between Ethical Coffee Chain Trade Co-operative Inc. and you, the user, supersedes all prior agreements and understandings pertaining to this subject matter.

Privacy & ECC

At ECC we respect and protect your personal privacy. We will tell you the purposes for which we intend to use any information we ask you to provide. Your personal information is not lent or sold to anyone for any purpose.

We collect information in order to:

  • process your order;
  • provide you with customer support;
  • maintain membership records; and
  • send you membership information and annual general meeting notices


ECC will set and access our own cookies on your computer to allow you to make purchases and interact with the site. We also use web beacons to gather anonymous, aggregated statistical information (e.g. unique hits, page views, etc.) about our website traffic.

ECC may share information collected by us with third parties to help process your order (e.g. shipping companies, credit card processors, etc.) or to provide statistical and demographic analysis to help us and our business partners provide you with better services and offerings.

ECC will not share, rent, lease, or sell your personal information (e.g. your email address, your credit card information, your name, your address, etc.) to any third party for their independent use or benefit.

ECC Membership Information Collection and Privacy

As a co-operative, ECC requires your assistance in providing us with your personal information to fulfill our legal obligations. If you become a member, you must provide certain information which is added to our internal membership database, which co-operatives must maintain by law. The information maintained in the database includes:

  • member number;
  • the name, address, and telephone number of the member;
  • the number of common and preference shares held by the member;
  • the date on which the name of the member was entered in the register as a member with the co-operative;
  • the date on which any person ceased to be a member of the co-operative.

The information contained in the database can only be used for corporate purposes pertaining to Ethical Coffee Chain Trade Co-operative Inc, such as catalogue mailings, Board election information and other correspondence. ECC does not sell, rent, or loan our membership lists to anyone.

Updating Membership Data

Opting Out

If you wish to have any of your personal information removed from our databases, or if you no longer want us to send any further communications to you, please contact us.

Please note, however, that as a co-operative we are required by law to maintain certain information about our members, as noted above in ECC Membership Information Collection and Privacy, even after a member has terminated his or her membership.

Accuracy of Information

We strive to ensure that any personal information we retain and use is as accurate, complete and up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which we will use it. We do not routinely update personal information unless necessary for these purposes. Nonetheless, if our records regarding your personal information are inaccurate or incomplete, we will amend that information at your request.

Access to Information

At your request, we will provide to you a statement explaining the extent to which we hold personal information about you, and we will explain how that information has been used or disclosed by us.

This page will be updated if information about the collection and use of your personal data changes.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

ECC may update this privacy policy in the future. We will notify you about material changes to this privacy policy by placing a prominent notice on our website.

Any changes in our use of personal information contrary to Members' initial consent will be posted, in advance, on our website with instructions regarding consent to any changes. Notices may also be posted in our stores and sent by email. All changes will remain in compliance with federal and provincial privacy legislation.
